Re: You will own nothing and be happy
Fuel Duty rates
The rate you pay depends on the type of fuel.

Type of fuel Rate
Petrol, diesel, biodiesel and bioethanol 52.95 pence per litre
Then you have 20% VAT

So Westside I don't know where you get 8p increase on 50p !!!

Westside 8:48 Thu Jun 9
Re: You will own nothing and be happy
46% Is still a huge cut, given the current situation and rising costs all round!

True, but the rising cost of fuel, isn't a taxation issue. A year ago, petrol was around £1.30 a litre. Now it's around £1.80. Of that 50 pence increase, tax (VAT) is only just over 8 pence.

Re: You will own nothing and be happy
This is down to one thing only. Tax.

It isn't.

Duty on fuel hasn't increased since 2011, even being cut by 5p a litre, in this year's budget.

Although rising fuel prices, have led to a higher VAT take (at the same VAT % rate)

The percentage of the forecourt price of a litre of petrol which is duty and VAT is 46%. The lowest percentage its been, for over 10 years.

Re: £1.92 for a litre of diesel.
What is all this about performance for fucks sake if you can get above 30 due to traffic then don't go above 50 or else a speed camera gets you. Cheapest petrol gets the fucking cat moving that's it. The great 2022 "No drivers scam" started the price hike and the fucking war gave then an excuse to carry on. Apparently and let's be honest you can't believe fuck all nowadays, but we get 30% of our oil from Russia, so me being simple minded thinks well that's 30% increase not fucking 80%. As I said profiteering cunts

When you vote you have a choice between a big tax, big government Conservative party and an even bigger tx, bigger government Labour/Lib Dem party.

That's standard petrol. Obviously products such as V-Power etc are better quality as the main product is Super Unleaded.

'Supermarkets knock out the lowest grade fuel with the poorest performance as cheaply as possible so mugs queue to fill up and get less mileage and run out quicker'

That's not true. The petrol at a Shell garage is exactly the same as petrol in a Tesco garage. Same PU10, same ethanol and same additives. All coming from the same tanks in the same oil terminal.

Re: £1.92 for a litre of diesel.
combination of a few things:

- covid happened which meant global demand absolutely plummeted (the price of oil actually went negative at one point). the oil companies got bailouts, sacked tens of thousands of employees, shut down refineries and dropped production to keep them firmly in the black. now covid has fucked off, OPEC has realised its was actually much more profitable to slowly ramp production up to keep supply low. Russia being taken out of the equation basically doubled down on this. if oil was a free market rather than a cartel then they'd all be racing to ramp up production to meet demand.

- prices at the pump in this country also suffer from the predatory practices that were established with ABSOLUTE MORONS started queueing round the block to fill their tanks over a completely artificial fuel scare. prices inflated to take advantage and that moved the baseline of what was considered acceptable. prices never fully went back down to where they were before.

- our government can get away with high duty/taxes on fuel to balance out the other fucked parts of the economy because we are a relatively small country with reasonable public transport infrastructure. good prices to us would be horrific to the average australian or american where 3+ hour drives are a standard part of everyday life rather than a "trip".

the first is by far the biggest contributor long term. the second and third have combined to make a bad situation worse.

Re: £1.92 for a litre of diesel.
No wonder the Government is doing fuck all against these profiteering oil companies as they now take around 30p in VAT from every litre - compared to just 25p before Russia invaded Ukraine - as well as 53p in fuel duty from every litre.

Re: £1.92 for a litre of diesel.
|It is because of a lack of refining capacity and storage, plus the Bio element. There is no incentive to increase it as all these Eco Monkeys and their political allies want to rid us of fossil fuels. Why spend billions building new capacity when it will all be redundant in 10 / 15 years. The increase of the Bio element last year has made it worse as you get less Mpg, thus driving up demand.

At some point the issue of the madness of putting food in engines will come to a head. They will be forced hopefully by the masses to make a decision about whether to keep on putting food into western rich mans cars , or feeding the 100's of millions of the starving poor.

Biden last week showed his hand by fucking the starving poor of the world and upping the Bio element to 15 %!!!

In all likelihood nothing will happen until the likes of Harry and Meghan start complaining about how much there tax free Jet Fuel is costing

Re: £1.92 for a litre of diesel.
Sky explained it all on their website.

Apparently during covid barrels went down as low as $80 but now due to demand and the Ukraine war those prices are fast approaching $200 a barrel.

The RAC reckon it won't be long till £2.00 a litre.

There is also some suggestion of companies profiteering from it and this includes supermarkets who use to use fuel as a loss leader but now are amongst the highest prices, Asda would happily shout out how cheap they were but yesterday upped their prices by 5p a litre and kept it quiet.

Re: £1.92 for a litre of diesel.
Does anyone know or can explain why when the Oil Price was nearing $1.20 per barrel back in 2012 - the Petrol Price was £1.40 per litre .... so why so high now?

Re: £1.92 for a litre of diesel.
I have just seen the table for which countries have the highest price fuel and we are in 4th place overall but we are the highest in Europe for diesel? Why is that? Why is Northern Ireland about 10p a litre cheaper?

Feel sorry for the Danes, £2.04 a litre for petrol.
